Testing out the Canon RF 100-500

A few days ago, I had the chance to step out and explore the Venice Canals and Boardwalk, Testing out the Canon RF 100-500 lens paired with my R6 Mark II. This lens completely blew me away with its incredible sharpness, focusing and impressive reach. With a variable aperture ranging from f/4 to f/7.1 at the long end, the compression it delivers creates gorgeously smooth backgrounds that are simply stunning. Most would think with such low aperture it wouldn't be pleasing enough, that's totally not the case.

One quirk I noticed, though, is the placement of the zoom throw—it’s on the opposite end of where it usually is. This made zooming in and out feel awkward & uncomfortable. For the most part you end up getting used to it. That aside, the lens is a fantastic option for a wide variety of shooting scenarios. For those like me who often crop their photos, the extra reach this lens provides is a game-changer.

Although the price tag is steep, I’ll definitely be renting this gem again, and it’s officially on my wish list for future gear upgrades.

Enjoy the photos!
